October 26, 2016 Meeting Notes– Capital Area Breastfeeding Coalition

Attendance:  Beth M., Lindsey, Naimah, Tammy, Rose, Lynn, Diane, Claretta. New attendees:  Julie Wilbur, Patient Care Manager, McLaren, and Abby Sherwin, R.D. MIHP, Ingham County HD WIC.

Announcements: Audra Post, a midwife, was invited to join us, but was unable to attend. Lynn will reschedule her.

Special invitations to CABC:  In addition to Audra Post, Lynn will check with Angerla Daniel to attend a meeting.  We would like to invite Mari Douma (Tammy will check with her and  Dr. Barry (Beth will check with her), as well as others in the community to talk about how they provide breastfeeding services and to learn more about CABC.

Reception/Networking event:  this will include those who support breastfeeding in the community:  midwives, LLL leaders, peer counselors, Baby Cafe, hospitals, etc. In order to plan it, the following volunteers will put together their ideas.  Naimah will get the group going after her December 17 graduation (congratulations!!):  Lindsey, Beth, Naimah, Mary, Claretta.  The event will be planned for a Thursday or Friday evening, possibly March 30 or 31.  Venue suggestions to date include:  Old Nation Brewpub, Lansing Brewing Company Stockhouse Room, and Ozone Brewery.

Resource guide and website: Discussion but no definitive conclusion reached about how to handle a longer list of resources on the website, our short half-pager, and a printable two-pager. People still like having all the info on-line, and also like the short half-page form.  Difficult to maintain several different versions.  Beth will email Ann with the Sparrow 2-pager. Suggest a committee to work on it and put it in Google Docs:  Tammy, Abby and Diane have volunteered.

Mom2Mom Sales Box: Removed some unneeded material.  Need to have:  Small (1/2-page) resource guides (who can print?); reprints of Paced Feeding guide from Nancy Mohrbacher’s website for the Caregiver of the Breastfed Baby.  Claretta and Naimah may have a literature holder that would be useful for the Mom2Mom sales.

Updates:

Black Breastfeeding Sisterhood:  Yarn donations would be useful for crochet projects– if you have some yarn to donate, please bring to the next meeting or give to Naimah.

Ingham County Health Department:  MIHP is now allowing IBCLC home visits after delivery.
